Toward Columbus: Convention office seeks recommendations for CCABs [ENS] The committees, commissions, agencies and boards (CCABs) of the Episcopal Church's General Convention need new volunteers to help them carry out the work assigned to them by convention. The CCABs receive resolutions from General Convention and set policies for their implementation during the following three years until the next convention. The Rev. Gregory Straub, executive officer of the General Convention, has issued a call to the church for recommendations. A form for recommending people to serve on CCABs for a six-year term is available at www.episcopalchurch.org/53785_73810_ENG_HTM.htm.

Catalyst: At Home in the World: A Rule of Life for the Rest of Us, by Margaret Guenther

From the Rule of Life of St. Benedict to twelve-step groups and Weight

Watchers, Margaret Guenther offers warm and sensible advice for "the rest of us" -- singles, couples, parents, extended families, members of churches -- to create a helpful and balanced rule of life to support our search for faith.

Reflections on the classic vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience are followed by short, personal essays on the essentials - authority, money, pleasure, power, stinginess, friends, enemies, and getting through hard times. Reflection questions following each essay provide guidelines in designing a rule, along with practical advice.

Since the publication of Holy Listening: The Art of Spiritual Direction, Margaret Guenther's books on the spiritual life have found an appreciative, wide audience. A priest, writer, teacher, and grandmother, Guenther is the former director of the Center for Christian Spirituality at The General Theological Seminary and an associate at St. Columba's Episcopal Church in Washington, DC.
