JIM HARDENBROOK TO BE INTERIM DIRECTOR FOR SUDAN INITIATIVE OF THE CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN

May 23, 2006 (Elgin, IL) -- Jim Hardenbrook, past moderator of the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference and pastor at Nampa (Idaho) Church of the Br ethren, has accepted an assignment to work part-time as interim director for the churchâs Sudan initiative, while continuing his pastoral duties .

The Sudan initiative is a ministry of the Church of the Brethren General Boa rd.

Hardenbrook traveled to Sudan last spring with an ecumenical delegation and reported about that experience to the 2005 Annual Conference. His has been a strong voice for Brethren to do more in response to the tremendous needs in southern Sudan during a "critical moment" following peace accords between t he northern government and southern rebel movements.

The assignment likely will continue through the summer.

The Church of the Brethren is a Christian denomination committed to continui ng the work of Jesus peacefully and simply, and to living out its faith in c ommunity. The denomination is based in the Anabaptist and Pietist faith trad itions and is one of the three Historic Peace Churches. It celebrates its 30 0th anniversary in 2008.
