ASHEVILLE, NC -- William Sanborn "Sandy" Pfeiffer, Ph. D., provost and vice president for academic affairs at Ramapo College of New Jersey, was recently named the sixth president of Warren Wilson College, effective in July. Pfeiffer, 58, will succeed Douglas M. Orr Jr., who is retiring after 15 years as Warren Wilson's president. Pfeiffer has been at Ramapo College in Mahwah, NJ, since 2003. He was interim president of the school from July 2004 to June 2005.

HANOVER, IN -- Hanover College President Russell Nichols has announced that he will retire June 30, 2007, following his 20th year as president of the school. Nichols is the 14th president in Hanover's 179-year history and only the fifth since 1879. A committee will be appointed to coordinate a national search for Nichols' successor, to be named in time to assume office July 1, 2007.

DECATUR, GA -- Agnes Scott College officials renamed the school's science building last month in honor of outgoing president Mary Brown Bullock, who announced last year that she would step down on Aug. 1 after more than a decade of leading the college. The $36.5-million science building, completed in 2003, is now called the Mary Brown Bullock Science Center. It houses the departments of biology, chemistry, psychology, physics and the Science Center for Women.

SAN ANTONIO, TX -- In an effort to enhance fine arts on campus, Trinity University dedicated three newly renovated buildings May 11. The Jim and Janet Dicke Art Building, the Campbell and Eloise Smith Music Building, and the Ruth Taylor Recital Hall were dedicated during a ceremony held in the shared foyer of the buildings. The gathering featured a short concert by Trinity music faculty, an exhibition of student artwork, and tours of the new classrooms and studios.

EASTON, PA -- Susan Averett, professor and head of economics and business at Lafayette College, was interviewed live on NBC's "Today" show by host Matt Lauer on May 4. Averett was asked about her research linking birth order and risky teenage behavior. Her research appears in the April edition of the journal Economic Inquiry. Averett's study, "Birth Order and Risky Adolescent Behavior," was co-authored by Laura M. Argys and Daniel I. Rees, both of the University of Colorado at Denver.

ELKINS, WV -- The Rev. Christian T. Iosso, Ph. D., a national staff member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) spoke at the Davis & Elkins College baccalaureate service on May 13. Iosso is coordinator of the PC(USA)'s Advisory Committee on Social Witness Policy, which develops position papers and social policies for consideration by the denomination's General Assembly. He earned degrees from Johns Hopkins University, and Princeton and Union (NY) Theological seminaries.

TULSA, OK -- University of Tulsa student Lizzie Nelson is scheduled to appear May 19 on a college edition of the television game show "Wheel of Fortune," according to the school's Web site. Appearing on the show has been a longtime dream for Nelson that started coming true last October when the "Wheelmobile" stopped in Tulsa seeking contestants. The native of Belleville, IL, impressed scouts and was invited to final auditions in January. A few days later, she was notified that she had been selected as a contestant on the program.
