ABCUSA: Callahan, Former ABEC Staffer, Dies

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS) - Mae E. Callahan, former western representative of The American Baptist Extension Corporation (ABEC), died on Friday, June 16, after being ill for several months.

Callahan joined ABEC in 1993 and was commissioned as a home missionary in 1997; she retired in 2005. Prior to joining ABEC, Callahan served as church administrator for Antioch Progressive Baptist Church in Sacramento, Calif., and in a variety of administrative and management positions at California State University, also in Sacramento. She was active in the McKee Consultation for many years and participated often in planning the annual event.

Valoria Cheek, Esq., president of ABEC, remembers Callahan: "Mae was a woman of tremendous strength, courage, and faith. We were blessed to have known and worked with her. Her dedication to her work and to American Baptist Churches USA, along with her willingness to share her gifts, will be missed. We thank God for her contributions."

Callahan is survived by a son, Kareem.

A member of Antioch Progressive Baptist Church, Sacramento, Calif., Callahan's memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 24, at 5 P.M. at the church.

Contributions to a scholarship fund to be established in Callahan's name, as well as cards or other remembrances, may be sent to the church at 7650 Amerst St., Sacramento, CA 95832.
