VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS)-International Ministries (IM) announced the appointment of two new missionaries during the recently completed board of directors meeting.

Speaking to the board of directors of IM, and to the members of the General Board of the American Baptist Churches USA (ABCUSA), Acting Executive Director Rev. Charles Jones expressed his deep joy at the appointment of Scott and Tan Coats. The couple will serve among the minority peoples of the Mekong River region of Thailand. Jones explained that the Coatses are being jointly appointed by IM and by Mission to Unreached Peoples.

Tan Coats is Thai, and Scott Coats is the son of retired missionaries Bob and Pat Coats, who rendered exemplary service for many years in northern Thailand. They are among the founders of Mekong Minorities Foundation, a ministry based in Chiang Rai, Thailand and devoted to holistic leadership development and capacity building.

Jones noted that the Coatses bring to three the number of new missionaries that have begun service with IM thus far in 2006. He emphasized staff are working with a number of candidates and look forward to expanding the number of missionaries serving through IM as the new missionary support model begins to bear fruit.
