Susquehanna University professor Cyril Stretansky receives choral award

Cyril M. Stretansky, director of choral activities, Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, Pa., received the Elaine Brown Award for Choral Excellence at the summer conference of the American Choral Directors Association of Pennsylvania, held August 6-8 at The Pennsylvania State University, State College, Pa. Named after a long-time professor of music and director of choral activities at Temple University, Philadelphia, the award recognizes leadership and excellence in choral conducting. Susquehanna University is one of 28 colleges and universities of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
A native of Nanticoke, Pa., Stretansky graduated from Mansfield (Pa.) University and earned a Master of Music degree from Temple University. He also studied at the Meadowbrook School of Music, Rochester, Mich., and the University of Cambridge, England. Stretansky holds the Stretansky Distinguished Professorship Chair in Choral Music, the first endowed chair in fine arts created at Susquehanna University established in his honor in 2001. He recently completed a 24-year tenure as music director and conductor of the Susquehanna Valley Chorale and Orchestra of the Susquehanna Valley Chorale.
