UMNS corrects figures in two recent stories

Aug. 28, 2006 News media contact: Tim Tanton * (615) 7425470*

United Methodist News Service left some zeroes out of figures reported in two stories Aug. 23.

The story "Bishop encourages U.S. churches to partner with East Africa" and the later UMNS Weekly Digest brief on that report should have stated that 800,000 Tutsis were killed by Hutu extremists a decade ago.

The story "Gender inequality fuels global AIDS pandemic, speakers say" should have reported that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced a $500 million donation over the next five years to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

UMNS strives for accuracy and regrets these errors. Editors, please note the corrections.
