ELCA Publisher releases 'The Lutheran Handbook on Marriage'

by John R. Brooks, ELCA News Service

Augsburg Fortress, the publishing ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Minneapolis, released "The Lutheran Handbook on Marriage," a humorous and serious look at marriage. The book is part of a series of popular books that began with the publisher's 2005 release of "The Lutheran Handbook: A Field Guide to Church Stuff, Everyday Stuff and the Bible."

The marriage handbook addresses such subjects as: "Five Faithful Couples in the Bible," "The Five Most Overused Wedding Songs," "Seven Common Moments in Which You Should Think before You Speak," "The Top Five Criteria for Evaluating the Church Nursery before Depositing Your Kids," "Ten Ways to Dislodge Your Adult Children from Your Home" and "How to Share the TV Remote Control."

"We felt called to do this book because marriage jokes never get old but also because people navigating their way through the tough work of marriage need handy helpful information," wrote the Rev. Kristofer A. Skrade, Augsburg Fortress' new brand development editor, in the book's preface. "Putting those jokes and that information together seemed like a good idea," he said.

Augsburg Fortress plans to introduce "The Lutheran Course on Marriage," a 7-session marriage enrichment course, on Dec. 1.
