The Holy Synod of the Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch held in Damascus under H.H. Patriarch Zacca I Iwas, October 10-13, 2006, issued a declaration denouncing the kidnapping on October 9 and assassination on October 12, of Father Boulos Iskandar Behnam, pastor of the Syrian Orthodox Church in Mosul, northern Iraq, as a shameful crime and horrible deed, calling upon international conscience to put and end to the suffering of the Iraqi people, and inviting those in authority to continue efforts in spreading peace and security.
