AJC Outraged by Violent Attack on Muslim Man in Brooklyn

November 3, 2006 - New York - The American Jewish Committee strongly condemns the vicious attack on Shahid Amber, a young Pakistani-American man, that occurred earlier this week in the Midwood Section of Brooklyn.

On Sunday the police arrested the alleged attackers, five area Jewish students.

"If indeed these young men are found guilty, their actions must be punished swiftly and fully," said Diane Steinman, director of AJC's New York Chapter. "We join with all New Yorkers praying for Mr. Amber's full recovery."

According to reports, the attack occurred on Sunday when the youths apparently assaulted Mr. Amber.

"The terrible act betrays the values of tolerance and mutual respect which we, as Jews, are taught by our tradition," said Steinman.
