Pre-trial hearing date set for former PC(USA) treasurer
Golliher accused of embezzling nearly $133,000

LOUISVILLE * Judy A. Golliher, 54, the former treasurer of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), faces a Dec. 1 pretrial hearing on eight counts of theft from the denomination.
Golliher * who was the second-ranking financial officer for the PC(USA) * was indicted last month on eight counts of embezzlement. The thefts allegedly took place between October 2005 and June of this year. She was fired in July and it was later determined that a total of nearly $133,000 was misappropriated during the last nine months of her tenure.
During the summer the PC(USA)'s Internal Audit Office conducted an investigation into the missing funds. Its report revealed that $102,000 was taken from the PC(USA)'s bank account and deposited into Golliher's personal account. The report also showed that about $30,000 in other money was unaccounted for or misused.
Golliher has since paid the PC(USA) $102,000 in restitution, as the denomination continues to work to recover the more than $30,000 still owned to the church, PC(USA) officials said Nov. 17.
"We're pleased to have received such a large portion of the missing funds," said Linda Valentine, executive director of the PC(USA)'s General Assembly Council. "We've received nearly three-quarters of it and we continue to monitor and pursue the matter."
Golliher began working at the PC(USA) in October 2004 as interim controller. A year later she was named associate director for Finance and Accounting. Last February she also became treasurer for the PC(USA) church corporation.
Golliher's Louisville attorney, David Lambertus, could not be immediately reached for comment Nov. 17.
