WCC Moderator and General Secretary Visit Lebanon
Rev. Dr. Walter Altmann and Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia paid a visit to Lebanon, December 16-19, 2006, upon the invitation of former WCC Moderator, H.H. Catholicos Aram I. This visit was also an expression of solidarity with the churches of Lebanon as well as a fact-finding mission in a country torn by political conflicts.
The WCC delegation visited all heads of churches and leaders of the two Muslim communities, as well as government officials including Prime Minister Fuad Siniora and Dr. Tarek Mitri, Lebanese Minister of Culture. MECC General Secretary accompanied he delegation during all visits.
The delegation ended their visit program with an encounter with MECC Executive Committee members and Staff at the MECC office. Rev. Dr. Altmann and Rev. Dr. Kobia were greeted by Mr. Guirgis Saleh. The latter offered them MECC publications and symbol, following which they heard about the different activities of the Council.
The WCC delegation held a special meeting with the MECC General Secretary to discuss WCC/MECC relations and means and ways of reinforcing them.
