Christian-Muslim Youth Seminar in Aleppo - Syria
This is the 6th Seminar that brings together 40 young Christians and Muslims from churches and Islamic institutes and organizations from Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan and Iran. They gathered at the Armenian Catholic church hall in Aleppo, Syria for three days under the theme: "Creation & Religions as Sources of Unity". The Seminar took place from November 30 to December 2, 2006 and was jointly organized by the MECC General Secretariat and the Unit on Education & Renewal/Youth Program, based on the conviction that grass-roots young people should be part of the main stream dialogue between Christians and Muslims in the Middle East
The event was one of a series organized by the MECC during the past four years and was part of the special celebrations of the city of Aleppo named "The Capital of Islamic Culture for 2006".
The Seminar opened the space for young Christians and Muslims to interact in dialogue and discussions on the common theme. The program including 3 thematic forums, group discussions, field visits to Christian and Muslim institutes as well as sight seeing of Aleppo.
The opening ceremony was marked by the presence of the Mufti of Aleppo, H.E. Dr. Sheikh Mahmoud Akkam, H. E. Archbishop Boutros Marayati of the Armenian Catholic Church and member of the MECC Executive Committee, other Christian and Muslim religious leaders. Fr Hadi Mahfouz MECC Associate General Secretary and Education & Renewal Unit Director, Mr Razek Siriani also attended. A Final Communiqué was issued resuming the events of the Seminar.
