First Consultation on Christian Religious Education in Syria

The MECC Unit on Education & Renewal called for a Consultation in Syria from December 8-9, 2006, to discuss the challenges and common ecumenical aspects of Christian religious education in schools and centers in churches. The 25 leaders of Christian religious education raised questions on the challenges that are facing Christian religious education in the context of new realities in Syria and perspectives and new methodologies that teachers need to use. They highlighted the difficulties in applying the new Christian religious education curriculum produced by the Syrian Ministry of Education and the common ecumenical aspects that centers of Christian religious education may encounter in the future.

This ecumenical encounter drew a new inspiration and shaped a new vision of ecumenical cooperation. The Consultation recommended that a Special Ecumenical Committee be established for follow up. For further information, kindly contact Razek Siriani at: rsiriani@scs-net.org
