60-plus Servant Events set for next summer

LCMS Youth Ministry has announced that more than 60 events next summer will comprise the Synod's 2007 line-up of Servant Events, under the theme "CHOSEN to the World."

"CHOSEN" is the theme of the 2007 National LCMS Youth and Adult Gatherings set for July 28-Aug. 1 in Orlando, Fla.

Jim Lohman, associate director of LCMS Youth Ministry, said that congregations are being encouraged to include a Servant Event in their youth programs next summer.

"Even with many congregations attending the Gathering in Orlando, youth groups can still participate in Servant Events throughout the country," Lohman said. "Groups should consider events close to home, or select events that happen on their way to or from the Gathering. There are still many who need acts of love and service, and youth can and do make a difference."

New for 2007, groups may participate in weekend Servant Events for winter and spring.

At www.lcms.org/youth <http://www.lcms.org/youth> on the Web, those interested can learn more about upcoming Servant Events through conducting their searches by date, region, and type of service.

A free DVD also is available, especially for congregations with youth preparing to participate in a Servant Event. To request the DVD, "LCMS Servant Events," contact the Youth Ministry Office at youth.ministry@lcms.org <mailto:youth.ministry@lcms.org> . For a companion discussion guide, go to the Web site, where congregations also may download copies of the 2007 Servant Event poster, which was sent to all Synod congregations in November.

LCMS Servant Events are open to youth, adults, and families who wish to participate. Servant Event activities include construction, human-care opportunities, outreach events, and family-based activities appropriate for all ages.

The Synod Youth Ministry office also works with the LCMS Southern District Relief Committee to arrange Servant Event opportunities in areas of the U.S. Gulf Coast that are affected by hurricanes. Those interested in participating in these events are asked to call LCMS Youth Ministry at (800) 248-1930, Ext. 1154.

Since summer of 1981, when the Synod's Servant Events first took place, more than 27,000 youth and adults have completed acts of service at more than 1,000 LCMS Servant Events in 34 states and nine countries.

For more information, visit the LCMS Youth Ministry Web site at www.lcms.org/youth <http://www.lcms.org/youth> or call (800) 248-1930, Ext. 1155.
