Multimedia: Baumgarten upholds MDGs, ONE Campaign in fighting global poverty

[ENS] A series of video interviews for online streaming will complement the 10 Sunday bulletin inserts -- designed for use from January 7 to March 11, 2007 -- that focus on the United Nations' eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and ways in which the Episcopal Church is committed to their realization.

The first insert, which can be downloaded at

http://www.episcopalchurch.org/3577_11775_ENG_HTM.htm, features an overview of the MDGs and the ONE Campaign from Alexander Baumgarten, international policy analyst in the Office of Government Relations.

In a video interview, Baumgarten talks about the Episcopal Church's commitment to the MDGs, adopted by the 75th General Convention as a top mission priority for the next triennium, and upholds the importance of the ONE Campaign, an advocacy movement to make poverty history.

Video and audio streams of Baumgarten's interview are available at http://www.episcopalchurch.org/3577_78390_ENG_HTM.htm

Catalyst: "The Dwelling of the Light" from Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co., by Rowan Williams, 84 pages, hardcover, c. 2003, $16

[Source: Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co.] -- To look at an icon of Christ is to do far more than view an image of a human life lived long ago. As Christians in the Orthodox tradition have understood for nearly fifteen hundred years, it is to be brought into the presence of the one who radiates the light and love of God. Such an encounter cannot leave the viewer unchanged.

Drawing on this rich source of spiritual devotion, Archbishop Rowan Williams shows readers of all Christian traditions how to understand and interact with four classical icons of Jesus: The transfiguration; The resurrection; Christ as a member of the eternal Trinity; Christ as judge of the world and ruler of all.

As readers learn to look prayerfully rather than analytically at these icons, they will find themselves drawn into the energy and action of the icons themselves. Speaking a powerful word of challenge to many contemporary concerns and anxieties, these classical works of religious devotion invite viewers to discover and contemplate all that can be found in the face of Jesus Christ.

The book includes a concise introduction in which Williams illuminates the history and role of icons in Christian worship.
