Election of Episcopal Archbishop for North Africa, Horn of Africa, the Middle East and Gulf States
The MECC is pleased to learn of the election on February 5, 2007, of H.E. Bishop Dr. Mounir Hanna Anis, Archbishop of the Episcopal Church for Egypt and the regions of North Africa, the Horn of Africa, Jerusalem and Palestine, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Cyprus, the Gulf and Iran.
Archbishop Mounir Hanna¹s interest and work in ecumenism and community development, particularly in the fields of health, social services and education, and his involvement in the global interfaith dialogue between th e Episcopal Church and Al Azhar are well known. The newly elected Archbishop has stated that peace making in the Middle East region will be one of his top priorities during his mandate.
H. E. Archbishop Hanna was born in 1950 in Egypt. He graduated Medical School in 1974 and worked as a medical doctor for 26 years, before studying theology in Australia and Great Britain. He was ordained bishop in 2000. He is married and has two sons.
The MECC congratulates H. E. Archbishop Mounir Hanna on his election wishin g him success in this new mission.
