Christian bands set to rock Youth 2007

Fusebox, The Katinas and Superchic[k] are among cutting-edge Christian bands scheduled to perform this summer when thousands of United Methodist youth and youth leaders celebrate Youth 2007 in Greensboro, N.C.
Fusebox (www.fuseboxmusic.com) will be the worship band for the entire week of July 11-15, leading both morning and evening services for the quadrennial gathering, which is The United Methodist Church's largest youth event.
Other bands lined up include Kutless and Stellar Kart.
Led by singer/songwriter and Dove Award nominee Billy Buchanan, Fusebox formed in 2000 and boasts a mix of driving guitars, soulful vocals, hypnotic beats and worshipful lyrics. Fusebox members (lead singer/guitarist Bill Buchanan, guitarist Brad Duncan and bass player Steve Conrad) met and performed together as Christian star Rebecca St. James' touring band. The trio blends urban and rock music with a message of faith inspired by their religious beliefs.
The Katinas (www.thekatinas.com), a group of five brothers born in American Samoa, will kick off the event on July 11. Sam, Joe, Jesse, John and James harmonize with one unshakeable voice to produce seamless sounds in classic Motown, urban hip-hop, neo-soul and islands-influenced pop.
According to the group's Web site, "their music reflects their faith in the Lord as well as their love for their mother, who died shortly after the Katina family moved to Washington state in 1988. The family moved again to Nashville following this tragic event."
Superchic[k] (www.superchickonline.com), a Chicago-based Christian band whose albums inspire, empower and entertain with "a call to rise above society's unhealthy trappings," will perform on July 12.
Appearing in 2001 with Karaoke Superstars, Superchic[k] upped its profile with song placements in the movie "Legally Blonde" and other venues while promoting its message of empowerment via Christianity.
Led by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Max Hsu (ex-Church of Rhythm) the band includes vocalist Tricia Brock, her guitarist/vocalist sister Melissa Brock, lead guitarist Dave Ghazarian, drummer Brandon Estelle and bassist Matt Dally.
Kutless (http://www.kutless.com), a Christian alternative band specializing in melodic hard rock, will present a full concert on Friday evening, July 13.
The band released its self-titled debut on BEC recordings in 2002. The group, which consists of James Mead (guitar), Dave Luetkenhoelter (bass), Jeffrey Gilbert (drums), Ryan Shrout (guitar) and Jon-Micah Sumrall (vocals), came together in Portland, Ore., in 1999, inspired by Christian rock predecessors the Supertones and mainstream modern rockers like Staind, Creed and Incubus.
Stellar Kart (www.stellarkart.com) will perform on July 14. Vocalist Adam Agee, drummer Jordan Messer, bassist Brian Calcara and guitarist Cody Pellerin released "All Gas, No Brake" in 2005. Their second release, "We Can't Stand Sitting Down," is due out in July.
According to its Web site, Stellar Kart was named New Artist of the Year by Ignite Your Faith (formerly Campus Life) readers and was nominated in the same category for a Dove Award. The band has shared the stage with everyone from Jeremy Camp and BarlowGirl to Kutless and Disciple; made appearances on the See Spot Rock Tour; partnered with Interlinc with their music video "Student Driver"; and garnered stellar reviews from everyone from CCM magazine to Amazon.com-not bad for four people who still drive their own van to their concerts.
