Online registration for ELCA Global Mission Event now open

by Melissa Ramirez Cooper, ELCA News Service

Online registration opened March 8 for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's (ELCA) 2007 Global Mission Event (GME) July 19-22 at The Ohio State University in Columbus, said Sunitha Mortha, associate director for global events and mission interpretation, ELCA Global Mission.

The theme for this year's GME is "New Heaven and New Earth." Participants will interact with ELCA mission personnel, international church leaders and members from throughout the ELCA in plenary and workshop sessions known as Global University. The Rev. Mark S. Hanson, presiding bishop of the ELCA, Vitor Westhelle, professor of systematic theology, Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, and Immaculee Ilibagiza, a survivor of the Rwandan genocide who helps others learn to forgive and heal from the long-term effects of genocide and war, will deliver keynote presentations.

Through special programming children, junior and senior high school students, and other young participants will learn how they can live as faithful Christians in a global culture.
