The Rev. Marguerite Bowden-Reed, 86, probably the first women to serve as an executive in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), died of a stroke March 9 in Tucson, AZ.

Born in Lansing, MI, Bowden-Reed graduated from Michigan State University and New York Theological Seminary. Her church career began in 1948 as a Christian educator in Detroit. For 15 years, 1958-1973, she worked on the former United Presbyterian Church USA staff with the Board of Education in a variety of capacities.

She became a trailblazer in 1973, when she was elected executive presbyter for the Presbytery de Cristo, of the Synod of the Southwest (Arizona and New Mexico) and moved to Tucson. In 1980 she was the first woman elected executive for the Synod of the Covenant. After her retirement, she returned to Tucson, where she was active in the Sanctuary Movement as associate pastor of Southside Presbyterian Church.

Bowden-Reed was preceded in death by her brother, William T. Bowden and her husband of 19 years, Joseph. H. Reed, who died in 2001. Survivors include her brother, the Rev. James (Ann) Bowden; her sister-in-law, Betty Bowden; and numerous nephews and nieces. She is also survived by step-children Roark Reed (Diane), Waxahachie, TX; Ann Reed, Sacramento, CA; Kathleen Grazer, Seneca, SC; Richard (Elizabeth) Reed, Santa Rita, Guam; Terrance (Mary Ellen) Reed, Silver Spring, MD; and Mark (Maria) Reed, Ellicott City, MD; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will he held March 24 at Southside church.

Presbyterians for Renewal has announced the appointment of the Rev. Harry S. Hassall as interim national Wee Kirk (churches of 125 members or less) funding consultant. Beginning Apr. 1, Hassall will work with designated fundraisers in the nine Wee Kirk regions strengthen financial support for the Wee Kirk conferences.

Although best known for his years on staff of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Hassall has devoted much of his career to strengthening small church ministry in the PC(USA). He coordinating the first national Wee Kirk Conference in 1980 at Montreat. Nine Wee Kirk conferences are scheduled around the country this year. He has been a champion of small congregations and the unique role they play in Kingdom work ever since.

Louise Fleming, a career PC(USA) missionary in Congo/Zaire, died March 16 in Salisbury, NC. A memorial service was held March 18 at Unity Presbyterian Church in Woodleaf, NC.

Kristina Robb-Dover has been named "team coordinator" for the Presbyterian Global Fellowship (PGF), an organization launched last summer to increase Presbyterians' support for mission in this country and particularly abroad. Robb-Dover, a candidate for the ministry, is PGF's first staff person.

Robb-Dover, the daughter of missionaries who grew up in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, is a graduate of Yale College and Princeton Theological Seminary.

She previously worked for the international relief and development agency, World Relief, where she designed and managed a national network of evangelical churches advocating on behalf of the poor and disenfranchised. She also served in public relations for the Center for Religious Freedom of Freedom House, America's oldest human rights organization.
