WSC-AR Offers Condolences on Passing Away of Dr. Gurcharan Singh

It is with regret that we share with you that Dr. Gurcharan Singh, former Vice-Chairperson of the World Sikh Council - America Region (WSC-AR), passed away on March 30, 2007 as a pedestrian accident victim.

At this time of tragic loss for the entire Sikh community, we express our heartfelt condolences to his family and encourage all to pray for the strength to bear this terrible burden.

"While we mourn the sudden demise of Dr. Gurcharan Singh, we also celebrate his life and the many outstanding contributions he made to the Sikh community and to humanity as a whole," said Dr. Manohar Singh, Chairperson of WSC-AR.

Dr. Gurcharan Singh generously and selflessly gave of himself for the betterment of others. He was an eloquent and courageous voice for interfaith understanding and human rights and was a highly respected and much beloved figure in the Sikh community.

Dr. Gurcharan Singh was elected to the Regional Committee (governing board) of WSC-AR in 2004 and served on its Executive Committee as Vice-Chairperson. He also served as Chairperson of WSC-AR's Human Rights and Religious Freedom Committee and represented the Sikh Heritage Foundation on WSC-AR's General Body. Dr. Singh also served as a former member of the Council of Presidents of Religions for Peace - USA and was the WSC-AR representative to the Church Center for the United Nations

A memorial worship service in his memory will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2007, 5 pm to 7 pm at Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur, 100 Lattingtown Road, Glen Cove, NY 11542.

The WSC-AR is a representative and elected body of Sikh Gurdwaras and institutions in the United States. Its members include 38 Gurdwaras (Sikh places of worship) and 7 other Sikh institutions across the nation.
