ELCA offers broadcast public service announcements

by Lauren A. Lamb, ELCA News Service*

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is offering five new broadcast public service announcements (PSAs), intended for a wide range of audiences. The PSAs are available in 60- second and 30-second formats.

The PSAs for television include "Listen" and "Mother and Son." "Listen" discusses the presence of God's love everywhere in the world. "Mother and Son" demonstrates how random acts of kindness show God's love. Three PSAs for radio broadcast are also available, including "Parenting Tip," "Questions - Deep" and "Prayer." "Parenting Tip" shares tips for parents about ways to show their children love on a daily basis. "Questions - Deep" challenges listeners to think deeply about daily life through the innocence of children. "Prayer" asks listeners to pray for 20 seconds in whatever way best suits their lives.

The PSAs were released on May 1 by TV Access, an Illinois-based corporation specializing in the distribution of PSAs. Since their release, the TV announcements have aired more than 800 times on more than 400 stations reaching as far as Alaska, said Ava Martin, director for public media, ELCA Communication Services. The radio announcements have aired more than 6,000 times on more than 200 stations, Martin said.

The PSAs may be heard and viewed at
