Heiserman checks presented
General Assembly Council officials presented checks, representing a portion of the proceeds from a $9 million unrestricted gift from the estate of Geraldine Heiserman, a member of First Presbyterian Church in Yuma, CO.
Zane Buxton (third from left), executive of the Synod of the Rocky Mountains, accepted a check for $93,637, 1 percent of the gift.
Dan Saperstein (center, holding two checks), executive of the Presbytery of Plains and Peaks, accepted checks of $96,637 for First Church, Yuma, and $280,910 - 3 percent of the gift - for the ministries of the presbytery.
Reg Parsons (second from right), co-moderator of the Association of Executive Presbyters accepted a check for $978,224 - 10 percent of the Heiserman gift - for National Mission Partnership Funds, which undergirds ministries of middle governing bodies.
Also present were Joey Bailey (left), GAC director of shared services and CFO; Mark Klemm (second from left) of the Presbyterian Foundation, which cultivated and administered the Heiserman gift; and Frank Adams (right), chair of the GAC's Shared Services Committee.
When the gift was announced 18 months ago, $2.5 million was committed to PC(USA) overseas mission workers, whose positions were threatened by budget cuts.
