Women of the ELCA to celebrate 'Bold Women's Day' February 24

Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the women's organization of the church, will celebrate its second annual "Bold Women's Day" on Sunday, February 24. The organization offers such suggestions on how to mark the day as: + contacting legislators in Washington to support the HEART for Women Act + using the Bold Women's Day litany during worship on Feb. 24 + subscribing to the Cafe e-zine and encouraging others to so the same + sponsoring a "Fair Trade" fair with products from Lutheran World Relief + honoring women who have acted boldly + learning more about the Women of the ELCA's "Raising Up Healthy Women and Girls" health initiative + downloading a kit (PDF) to organize a 4K Run, Walk 'n' Roll + raising funds for the Women of the ELCA's 20th anniversary offering + making an individual gift to Katie's Fund in honor of a bold woman
"Grace Matters," the radio ministry of the ELCA, will broadcast a special program the weekend of Feb. 24. Carmen K. Richards, Hope, N.D., president, Women of the ELCA, will be the guest. The Rev. Peter W. Marty, Grace Matters host and senior pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, Iowa, will interview Richards and offer some reflections. Throughout January and February the program has included promotions for the Women of the ELCA's Seventh Triennial Gathering, July 10-13, at the Salt Palace Convention Center, Salt Lake City.
Women of the ELCA reports that, as of Jan. 3, a total of $47,377 has been given to projects selected as recipients of the 20th anniversary offering: the Augusta Victoria Hospital in Jerusalem, a Stand With Africa water project and the ongoing ministries of Women of the ELCA.
