PEACE FEST TO BE PART OF BRETHREN ANNIVERSARY EVENTS IN GERMANY

(March 24, 2008) Elgin, IL -- A Peace Fest is planned for August 1 at the Lutheran Pfarrkirche St. Marien in Marburg, Germany, as part of a weekend of international celebrations of the 300th Anniversary of the Brethren movement.

The 300th Anniversary celebrations will be centered in the village of Schwarzenau, Germany, on August 2-3. The first group of Brethren were baptized in Schwarzenau in 1708, in an act that founded and began the Brethren movement.

The Peace Fest will begin at 6:30 p.m. on August 1. Presenters will include Ken Kreider, author of the book "A Cup of Cold Water: The Story of Brethren Service"; Ken Rogers, speaking on the International Cultural Youth Exchange and Brethren Colleges Abroad; Dale Ott and Kristin Flory speaking about Brethren Volunteer Service (BVS) in Europe; Marie-Noelle von der Recke speaking about Church and Peace and faith communities committed to nonviolent discipleship; Angela Koenig of EIRENE International Christian Service for Peace, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary; and Wolfgang Krauss from the German Mennonite Peace Committee.

There also will be a presentation on a Marburg Peace Initiative, and the fest will offer displays by peace organizations.

The event is co-sponsored by BVS and EIRENE. To attend, please contact Myrna Frantz at myrnajef@netins.net.
