VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 04/09/08) - The Religion Communicators Council (RCC) has recognized the Communications team of National Ministries, American Baptist Churches USA for notable work. The RCC's DeRose-Hinkhouse Awards were presented at the professional organization's annual meeting in Washington, D.C. last week.

Susan Gottshall, National Ministries' associate executive director for Communications, received an Award of Excellence in the promotional/informational video category (under 15 minutes) for "Rebuilding Lives One Family at a Time." The production, related to the America for Christ Offering, lifted up the transformation National Ministries brought to a hurricane-devastated area of Baton Rouge, La., by participating in an interfaith project that built 12 houses in 12 days in partnership with Habitat for Humanity.

Gottshall also received a Certificate of Merit in the miscellaneous writing category for "Deliver Us From Evil: Baptists, Slavery & Freedom," the narrative historical exhibit developed for last year's ABCUSA Biennial that tells the story of American Baptist involvement in the struggle to free slaves and to develop programs and services supporting former slaves following the Civil War.

National Ministries' Creative Director Danny Ellison received a Certificate of Merit in the miscellaneous design category for the graphic layout and presentation of the Biennial exhibit, "Deliver us

From Evil: Baptists, Slavery & Freedom."

Karen Drummond, administrative assistant for National Ministries' Communications team, served as chair of the DeRose-Hinkhouse Awards competition.

The DeRose-Hinkhouse Awards recognize the achievements of RCC members who demonstrate excellence. Some 100 awards are presented each year in numerous categories, including print and online communication, design, photography, TV and video scripts, and more. Entries, compared with the best communication projects of religion communication professionals nationwide, are judged by a panel of professional religion and secular communicators. The awards honor the late Victor DeRose and Paul M. Hinkhouse, leading lithographers in New York City.

The Religion Communicators Council is an interfaith association of religion communicators at work in print and electronic communication, marketing, and public relations. Established in 1929, it is the oldest association of religion communicators in America. The organization's 14 chapters promote excellence in the communication of religious faith and values as well as understanding among diverse faith groups.
