VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 04/10/08) - Northern Baptist Theological Seminary (NBTS), related to American Baptist Churches USA through National Ministries, has called the Rev. Dr. Alistair Brown to be the seminary's 10 th president.
Dr. Brown joins NTBS from the Baptist Missionary Society, where he has served as general director and CEO at its world mission headquarters in Didcot, Oxfordshire, UK, since 1996. The society-with a staff of 70 and an annual budget of $14.4 million-is responsible for 160 mid- and long-term mission workers, along with 200 indigenous personnel.
National Ministries welcomes Dr. Brown to the American Baptist family as he continues a long history of Northern Seminary's participation in the American Baptist Association of Seminary Administrators.
Dr. David Laubach, National Ministries' associate executive director for Strategic Missional Relationships, says, "It has been my pleasure to serve with this educator, missiologist and denominational leader at the Baptist World Alliance and, as an alumnus of Northern Seminary, I look forward to partnership with him in preparing transformational leaders for Christ's churches in North America."
A former journalist and ordained pastor, Dr. Brown, who studied at the University of Edinburgh, holds a Ph.D. and a bachelor's degree in New Testament Language, Literature and Theology. He also earned an MBA from The Open University. He has worked as a church planter, and he served as senior pastor for more than a decade at a church in Aberdeen, Scotland.
