ABCUSA: Grant Announces Appointment Of Two New MMBB Staff Members

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 04/22/08) - Dr. Sumner M. Grant, executive director of The Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board (MMBB), has announced the appointment of Harold Leibovitz and the Rev. Miriam Chacón-Peralta to the MMBB staff.

Leibovitz began his service to MMBB as communications manager on December 17, 2007. In that capacity he will be responsible for the content and production of publications for MMBB members. He will also participate in developing plans for MMBB's Centennial Celebration in 2011.

With more than 30 years of experience in publications management, event planning, public relations, brand management and communications, Leibovitz has also worked on a wide variety of grassroots campaigns and social issues. Prior to joining the MMBB staff, he was director of strategic communications for the Foundation for Child Development.

Leibovitz holds degrees in political science from two universities: a B.A. from Boston University and an M.A. from Brown University.

The Rev. Miriam Chacón-Peralta joined MMBB as a regional representative on February 4, 2008. She will participate in the development and implementation of MMBB's effort to reach out to Latino congregations and clergy. She will also serve the Latino communities in Florida and Texas.

For the past 10 years, Chacón-Peralta has worked for MMBB as a free-lance translator. Among her credits are the Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering (RMMO) promotional materials.

Well-known to the American Baptist Latino community, Chacón-Peralta has served as a specialist in Mission Education/Communications and Hispanic Ministry with International Ministries. She has also been director of Hispanic Christian Education and director of Young Adult Ministries with Educational Ministries. In the early 1990's, she served as pastor of Segundo Iglesia Bautista in East Chicago, Indiana, and Encuentro Latino in Coatesville, Pennsylvania.

A graduate of Purdue University, Chacón-Peralta holds a master of arts degree from the University of Chicago, and a master of Christian Education and master of divinity degree from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary.
