Cristoph Schneider-Yattara fills mission relationships post at CWS

NEW YORK, May 7, 2008--Global humanitarian agency Church World Service today announced the hiring of Christoph Schneider-Yattara as associate director in the agencyâ??s Mission Relationships and Witness program.

In announcing the appointment, Cheryl Dudley, senior advisor to the CEO of Church World Service said Schneider-Yattara brings to CWS â??the deep understanding of the importance of ecumenism and relationship building within the faith community that will enhance our work of strengthening common witness among Christians.â??

He has served for more than eight years in various strategic positions within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, a CWS member denomination. Most recently, Schneider-Yattara was assistant to the bishop in Southern Wisconsin. Prior to that he was associate director for Companionship, Education and Advocacy in ELCA's Global Mission unit in Chicago.

Schneider-Yattara, who will be based in Chicago, also is active in Midwest civic affairs. He chairs the subcommittee on religion of the Hamburg sister city committee of the Chicago Sister Cities International program and is president of the board of directors for Singing Winds Waldorf School in Riverside, Illinois.

He holds a Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and a degree in Philosophy from Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany.

Before coming to the US, Schneider-Yattara studied theology and world religions at the universities of Jena, Leipzig, and Berlin, Germany. He also studied Dutch literature and language in Berlin and Amsterdam, Netherlands.
