Episcopal Public Policy Network urges action on climate legislation

[EPPN] The Episcopal Public Policy Network

(http://episcopal.grassroots.com) is calling on Americans to contact
their U.S. senators to urge them to support climate change legislation
that will reduce the country's greenhouse gas emissions and provide
relief to people in poverty in the U.S. and around the world.

"Urgent action by the United States in response to global warming is
long past due," Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori has said,
urging the Senate to take up climate change legislation at the earliest
opportunity.

After considerable negotiation on the legislation, the U.S. Senate will
consider new climate change legislation the week of June 2. Senators
Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) and John Warner (R-VA)
have worked for several months to improve America's Climate Security Act
(http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:s2191:) (S. 2191).

Solange De Santis named editor of Episcopal Life Media

[Episcopal News Service] Journalist and author Solange De Santis --
whose 32-year career has included assignments with Reuters, the Wall
Street Journal, and the Anglican Journal of Canada -- has been named
editor of Episcopal Life Media (ELM).

Hired on the unanimous recommendation of a five-member review panel, De
Santis will begin her new position on July 1 at the Episcopal Church
Center in New York City, said Canon Robert Williams, the Episcopal
Church's director of communication, who announced her appointment May
30.

De Santis -- a staff writer since 2000 for the Anglican Journal, the
national newspaper of the Anglican Church of Canada -- will shape and
plan content for both ELM's online and print editions, and provide
editorial leadership for its 225,000-circulation Episcopal Life monthly
newspaper, Williams said.

A spiritual self-development book for later years

>By Jerry Hames

[Episcopal Life] When Joan Chittister talks about her latest book, she
implores her audience to realize that it is the first generation to
experience life that can be lived into the 80s and 90s.

"It's the norm now," she said in an interview with Episcopal Life last
month. "For the first time in history, you have 60-year-old children
taking care of their 90-year-old parents."

Chittister, a member of the Benedictine sisters and a celebrated
spiritual writer, crisscrossed the country several times in April to
promote her latest book, The Gift Of Years, that looks at the many
dimensions of aging and how older people can live into the values they
are offered day by day.

"The Way of Mary: Following Her Footsteps Toward God" from Paraclete
Press, 228 pages, hardcover, c. 2007, $23.95

[Paraclete Press] The way of Mary is to follow in her footsteps

Christians of all denominations are rediscovering the significance of
the mother of Jesus, as films such as The Nativity Story and The Passion
of the Christ portray her life in new and startling ways. Written for a
popular audience, Mary Ford-Grabowsky's new book shares the wisdom of a
lifetime of devotion to Mary.

These new devotions, all of them inspired by the scenes and stories of
the Gospels, comment on Mary's extraordinary life on earth and momentous
influence on the human heart, male or female, ever since. Arranged in a
two-week cycle, each of these devotions includes meditation, reflection,
prayer, visualization, and ideas for freeing the creative spirit.

The new spirituality of Mary contained in this book will help readers
learn that drawing closer to the mother of Jesus is a way to attain a
holiness that is unlimited and a joy that can never end.
