MECC PARTICIPATES IN WCRP MEETING

The World conference on Religions for Peace (WCRP) organized the inaugural
meeting of the Middle East Council of Religious leaders/ WCRP in the Library
of Alexandria, Egypt in 14-15 July. H.E Ambassador IIari Rantakari of the
Fin Ministry of Foreign Affairs introduced the work of the Helsinki process
that was done in collaboration with the WCRP.   Religious leaders and
representatives attended the meeting. Mr. Elias El Halabi represented the
Middle East Council of Churches.  The Participants agreed to launch the
Middle East and North Africa (MENA)-WCRP.  Draft constitution and bylaws
were adopted and a follow up committee was established to prepare for the
first meeting of the MENA-WCRP in one year from now.
