Bulletin inserts for August 31 mark "Katrina Remembrance Sunday"

Episcopal Life Weekly bulletin inserts for August 31 bring a message to the
Church from the dioceses of Mississippi and Louisiana concerning their
reconstruction efforts as they work to repair the damage caused by Hurricane
Katrina in 2005. The Presiding Bishop has designated August 31 as Katrina
Remembrance Sunday, to call to mind the ongoing work of rebuilding the Gulf
Coast region. The inserts also include Prayers of the People for that
Sunday.

MAINE: One of the Church's "happiest bishops" reflects on retirement

The Rt. Rev. Chilton Knudsen, 61, bishop of the Diocese of Maine, who
considers herself "one of the happiest bishops in the Episcopal Church,"
will retire at the end of this month. Knudsen was consecrated March 28,
1998.

"I'm finding myself looking back a lot these days," she says, "and the
emblematic moments seem to have to do with the moments of beginnings and
endings in which the community gathers, especially funerals for clergy and
ordaining people.

"It comes down to simple ministry of presence," Knudsen says.  "I knew in my
head that's part of what bishops do, but living it has brought it home."

VTS appoints Jim Palmer as coordinator for hospitality and conferences

[VTS] Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS) has announced that Jim Palmer has
been named as hospitality and conference coordinator for the school.
Palmer, who has worked as the seminary's receptionist since October 2007,
will serve as the primary point person for all bookings, guest housing and
room arrangements, catering needs and billing.
