Presiding Bishop says church laments Quincy departures

>By Joe Bjordal

[Episcopal News Service, Quincy, Illinois] Presiding Bishop Katharine
Jefferts Schori said November 8 that the church "laments the departure from
the Episcopal Church of some individuals in southern Illinois" after members
of the Diocese of Quincy voted on November 7 to leave the Episcopal Church
and realign under the jurisdiction of the Anglican Province of the Southern
Cone.

"The Episcopal Diocese of Quincy remains, albeit with fewer members, and we
are working to assist in the reorganization of diocesan affairs," she said.
"We assure all, both Episcopalians and former Episcopalians, and members of
their surrounding communities, of our prayers for clarity and charity in
their spiritual journeys. May all be reminded that the Gospel work of
healing this world will take the best efforts of every person of faith."

The action to realign was carried out by the passing of two resolutions. The
deputies represent 24 churches and missions and about 1,800 parishioners.

Partnership for World Mission reviews Lambeth Conference hospitality
initiative, Indaba process

>By Matthew Davies

[Episcopal News Service, London] Assessing the Lambeth Conference's
hospitality initiative and the Indaba process used throughout last summer's
gathering of Anglican Communion bishops was the focus of the Partnership for
World Mission's annual conference.

The PWM conference -- which brought together representatives from church
mission agencies and diocesan companion links with members of the Church of
England and global partners involved in world mission -- was divided into
worship, plenary sessions, and base groups of eight people each that met
four times throughout the November 3-5 gathering in Swanwick, England.

"The conference sought to seriously engage with what came out of the Lambeth
Conference and seek a 'plan of action' as we go forward," said Stephen Lyon,
PWM secretary. "Over the 48 hours together we covered a great deal of ground
and left feeling that what happened in Canterbury over the summer will feed
into the mission relationships we seek to have with our partners."

Generosity and peace are hallmarks of the Navajo

[Episcopal Life Holiday Gift Guide] "The Diné (Navajo) observe Christmas as
their own tradition within the clan family, and in the location where they
live," said Anna Fowler of Farmington, New Mexico.

A member of All Saints Church in Farmington, she is chairperson of the Hogan
Learning Circle for the Episcopal Church in Navajoland, which works to mesh
traditional Navajo spirituality and traditions with those of the church.

She noted that the "Diné culture varies in different perspectives in
different areas of the Navajo Nation," which covers 27,000 square miles in
Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. The boundary lines for the Episcopal Church in
Navajoland are contiguous with the Navajo Nation.
