STORM LAKE, IA - Buena Vista University [www.bvu.edu] has
formed a partnership with the Minnesota Vikings
[www.vikings.com/Index.aspx] public relations department.
Initiated by Jeff Anderson, manager of public affairs for
the Vikings and a 2003 BVU graduate, the new Game Day
Internship Program will allow two to three BVU students to
work closely with the Vikings PR staff in assisting local
and national media during 2009 season home games.

Tasks interns will be assigned may include delivering game
information to the press boxes, setting up the post-game
press conference area and recording interviews with players
and coaches from both home and visiting team press
conferences and locker rooms.

Interested students should submit a resume, cover letter
and media-related writing sample - such as a press release
or newspaper article - to Jamii Claiborne by e-mail
[claiborne@bvu.edu] or at (712) 749-1212 or Beth Lamoureux
by e-mail [lamoureux@bvu.edu] or at (712) 749-2186. The
deadline for submissions is March 20. Finalists will be
selected by April 10. For more information, or for the
address to send printed documents, contact Lamoureux or
Claiborne.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The National Society of Physics Students
[www.aip.org/education/sps] has selected the Coe College
[www.coe.edu] chapter as an Outstanding Chapter for the
2007-08 school year. Those chapters that are honored excel
in physics areas such as research, public science outreach,
tutoring programs, representation at physics meetings and
social interaction of chapter members.

The Coe Physics Department is known worldwide for its
accomplishments in glass research and resulting
discoveries. In the last decade, the department has
received more than $2.1 million in external grant funding
for equipment and programs. During that time, more than 80
articles have been published by Coe physics faculty and
students in peer-reviewed publications, with over 250
student and faculty presentations at more than 70 scholarly
conferences.

Created as a professional society for physics students and
their mentors, the Society of Physics Students helps to
network and connect physics students to the professional
community. Each academic year less than 10 percent of the
total SPS chapters are nominated for depth and breadth of
SPS activities nationwide.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL - On March 3, John Prendergast, Darfur
activist and co-chair of the Enough Project
[www.enoughproject.org], spoke to hundreds of Eckerd
College [www.eckerd.edu] students on the eve of Sudanese
President Omar al-Bashir's arrest warrant by the
International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes
against humanity in Darfur

This is the first warrant of arrest ever issued for a sitting Head of State by the ICC.

Prendergast, a 25-year African international affairs
veteran and former adviser to the White House and the State
Department, testified in February
[www.enoughproject.org/publications/testimony-john-prendergast-senate-forei gn-relations-committee]
about the future of Sudan before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
He and other members of the Enough Project [www.enoughproject.org],
an initiative to end genocide and crimes against humanity, have been
monitoring and responding to the effects of al-Bashir's arrest.

During the public talk, Prendergast recounted stories of
how his relationship with Africa began when, at age 20,
images of Ethiopian famine moved him to buy a one-way
ticket to the troubled continent. He addressed the ongoing
crisis in Darfur, explaining that in only 15 minutes a
week, students can leverage small actions to make a larger
impact.

STAUNTON, VA - At a time when many colleges and
universities are cutting back on financial aid and benefits
to students to cope with the national economic crisis, Mary
Baldwin College [www.mbc.edu] recently announced a plan to
direct more than $700,000 in institutional and private
funding to its most important investment - its students.

The RCW Student Stimulus Package, named for its focus on
undergraduate students in the Residential College for Women
(RCW), includes scholarships and the creation of 50 new
paid internship positions.

One part of the stimulus package is designed to help next
year's freshman class, and the other two components provide
additional financial support for returning students.

MARSHALL, MO - Missouri Valley College [www.moval.edu]
President Bonnie Humphrey has announced the addition of a
bachelor's of science degree in hospitality and tourism
management to the MVC curriculum.

MVC and Pfoodman [http://pfoodman.com], an on-site catering
management company in Ballwin, MO, have partnered to begin
the degree program in fall 2009. The new major, which is
part of the business division, will add 10 new classes to
the MVC curriculum.

Pfoodman will support the program by providing the space
and financial support for the adjunct faculty needed for
the first years. After the third and fourth years of
existence, new faculty members will be added to the program.

The partnership between MVC and Pfoodman began in the
summer of 2001 when the company was hired to manage the MVC
cafeteria and catering service.

SAN ANTONIO, TX - Trinity University's [www.trinity.edu]
campus caterer is now serving 100 percent Fair Trade
coffee, and lots of it - hundreds of gallons a week, in
fact, said Miguel Ardid, director of Aramark's Trinity
University Dining Services. The reason is simple, he added:
Students wanted it, and it was the right thing to do.

A student leader of Trinity's Fair Trade Coffee Council
calls this development "a huge step forward" because the
accompanying system of certification ultimately helps
farmers as well as the environment.

"Fair Trade consolidates most of the expensive steps of
coffee roasting and marketing into one Fair Trade Certified
company, allowing more money to go back to the original
primary producers - farmers and pickers, who receive less
than 2 cents on the average $3 cup of coffee," said senior
Mica Segal.

GREENEVILLE, TN - Nancy B. Moody, president of Lincoln
Memorial University [www.lmunet.edu] in Harrogate, TN, has
been named the new president for Tusculum College
[www.tusculum.edu], effective June 1. Moody will be the
first female president at Tennessee's oldest college.

"I am excited to have the opportunity to serve Tusculum
College. I am extremely impressed with the people of
Tusculum - the students, faculty, staff, administrative
personnel and members of the Board of Trustees," Moody
said. "Without exception, there is a sense of enthusiasm
and pride for the mission of the college, which has a
wonderful legacy as the oldest institution of higher
education in the state of Tennessee. I look forward to
becoming a part of that legacy and to experiencing that
enthusiasm as we work, learn and grow together in our
efforts to enhance academic excellence, public service and
the qualities of Judeo-Christian character."

TULSA, OK - The University of Tulsa's [www.utulsa.edu]
2008-09 Presidential Lecture Series will conclude April 2
with a presentation from renowned poet Billy Collins, who
served as U.S. Poet Laureate from 2001 to 2003.

Collins' presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Hall
at the Allen Chapman Activity Center on TU's campus. The
events are free and open to the public. Doors will open at
approximately 6:30 p.m.

Collins is arguably the most popular poet in America and
served two terms as the U.S. poet laureate from 2001-2003.
No poet since Robert Frost has managed to combine high
critical acclaim with such broad popular appeal.

In June 2001, Collins was appointed United States Poet
Laureate 2001-2003. In January 2004, he was named New York
State Poet Laureate 2004-06. Collins is a distinguished
professor at Lehman College of the City University of New
York.
