Most people in Taiwan remember Dr. Wang King-Ho as a medical pioneer who treated patients afflicted with Blackfoot disease by founding a clinic that treated patients free of charge. Dr. Wang was urged by missionary Lillian Dickson set up a clinic that would treat, house, and feed patients with this disease for free while Dickson took care of the clinic’s financial needs by fundraising in the United States. The clinic helped patients all across Taiwan for over 25 years until it closed in 1984.

According to Wang’s daughter, her father was a genuine and unassuming person who almost became a victim during the February 28 Incident. Though he escaped from the period unharmed, he was later framed by corrupt officials when he exposed their treachery. Wang exposed a government official for graft and though that officer was indicted, he was later framed and imprisoned for 23 days. He relied on prayer and reading the Bible to get through those difficult days.

Wang’s biography will soon be published in Taiwan and the book will include details about his childhood experiences, love life, pursuit of justice, and experiences while working in the clinic.

During a recent banquet, the 94-year-old Wang climbed three flights of stairs to attend the event and was greeted by former Premier Su Tseng-chang. As the two made their entrance, they were greeted with a standing ovation as the crowd rose to acknowledge Wang’s contribution to Taiwanese society.
