To celebrate Arts Day and the grand opening of a new art gallery, Chang-Jung Christian University Department of Visual Arts held

an art exhibit on March 23 in the basement of the school’s library. The theme of the exhibit was “Growing Up” and the school’s

President Chen Chin-seng, and other school officials and faculty, attended the opening ceremony.

Chang-Jung Art Gallery is about 400 square meters in size and will be managed by the Department of Visual Arts. The first exhibit

consisted of large paintings by faculty and students of the department. To qualify for this exhibit, the size of each student’s

painting must exceed 36 Taiwanese square meters (approximately 21.6 square meters).

Among the works on exhibit was a painting that won the 10th National Arts and Literature Award, painted 25 years ago by

Department Chair Professor Tsai Mao-sung. The painting is approximately 1.66 meters long and 6.36 meters wide.

Drums and dance teams from two local elementary schools were invited to perform during the opening ceremony and the

atmosphere was festive as the sound of drums filled the air.

In related news, the University’s Department of Theology is now recruiting new students. According to Department Chair Professor

Chuang Ya-tang, the University’s theology program is the first of its kind accredited by the Ministry of Education, thus able to help

young people considering a career in Christian ministry to receive fairer treatment upon graduation.

President Chen Chin-seng hoped that more Christian students and faculty would join the school and influence its non-Christian

population through teaching and daily interaction. According to him, the school is a big mission field of its own and in great need of

>people to spread the gospel.
