Anglican Consultative Council reaffirms two-state solution for Israel,

Members de-cry 'physical form of apartheid' in Palestine

[Episcopal News Service -- Kingston, Jamaica] The Anglican Consultative
Council (ACC) on May 9 unanimously re-affirmed its desire for a 'robust
peace process" in the Israel-Palestine conflict and a two-state  solution.

The members passed a resolution that calls Israel's West Bank policies  "a
physical form of apartheid."

Anglican Church of Southern Africa Archbishop Thabo Makogba told the  council
that he supported the resolution "having lived under apartheid and  knowing
the pain of apartheid."

South Dakota diocese elects Tarrant as bishop coadjutor

[Episcopal News Service] The Very Rev. John Tarrant was elected on May 9  to
serve as bishop coadjutor (bishop with right of succession) of the  Diocese
of South Dakota.

Tarrant, 57, currently rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Pierre,  South
Dakota, was chosen on the second ballot in an election held in Pierre.  Out
of a total of 53 clergy and 139 lay votes, Tarrant received 44 clergy  votes
and 101 lay votes on the last ballot. He will be the 10th bishop of  South
Dakota.

The other candidates were the Rev. John Floberg, the Rev. Douglas Dunn  and
the Rev. Peter Stebinger, who withdrew after the first ballot.

ACC media briefing: Greek Orthodox, Lutheran guests discuss ecumenical
relationships

[Episcopal News Service] Greek Orthodox Metropolitan Nikitas, director  of
the Patriarch Athenagoras Orthodox Institute in Berkeley, California,  and
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada Bishop Michael J. Pryse of the  Eastern
Synod, address the media May 9 about ecumenical relationships between  their
churches and the Anglican Communion. Pryse and Metropolitan Nikitas are
ecumenical guests at the Anglican Consultative Council May 2-12 meeting  in
Kingston, Jamaica.
