PCT looks forward to new partnerships after CWM assembly

CWM Assembly 2009 was held from June 20~27 in Mamalapuram, India. The

assembly is held every three years and is attended by delegates from Africa, the

Caribbean, East Asia, Europe, South Asia and the Pacific. This year’s assembly

drew over 130 delegates from more than 31 church organizations.

According to Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT) General Secretary Andrew

Chang, the biggest achievement for PCT this year while attending the assembly is

receiving many invitations from several delegates for PCT to become partner

churches with their churches in ministry and missions.

Besides Chang, Changhua Presbytery’s Rev. Chuang Hsiau-shen and Chang Jung

Christian University’s Professor Lin Ming-ju and others also attended the

conference. This year’s theme was “Live the Good News” and focused on post-

tsunami rebuilding, improving women’s vocational skills, AIDS ministries, ministries

>in Chennai (India), and more.

Since Professor Lin already served the maximum two terms allotted by CWM as a

trustee representing PCT, Rev. Chuang was chosen to succeed her. According to

Chuang, Chang was instrumental in introducing him to delegates in attendance and

getting him acquainted with other ecumenical bodies and their staff members.

According to Chang, this trip was very rewarding because delegates from other

churches expressed desire to become partner churches with PCT to advance

mission ministries and share mission strategies. Furthermore, churches in Tuvalu

invited PCT to help them advance farming technology, and churches in Papua New

Guinea are building a Christian hospital and hope that PCT can assist them in

setting up a good system and enhance their medical technology.
