CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN HOLDS 10th OLDER ADULT CONFERENCE

(Sept. 1, 2009) Elgin, IL -- The Church of the Brethren will hold its 10th  National Older Adult Conference (NOAC) on Sept. 7-11 at Lake Junaluska Conf erence and Retreat Center in North Carolina. More than 900 people are expec ted to attend the conference from across the United States.

The event is for people age 50 and older and will include daily worship ser vices, a variety of workshops, recreation, and opportunities for fellowship .

The theme, "Legacies of Wisdom: Weaving Old and New," will help attendees c elebrate the legacy of faith, and aid them in exploring ways to create new  possibilities of hope for families, the church, and the world.

Keynote speakers include Rachael Freed, a pioneer in the field of family-ce ntered care in life-threatening and chronic illness and creator of the Hugo  Award-winning video series, "Portrait of the Heartmate"; David Waas, a Chu rch of the Brethren member and professor of history emeritus at Manchester  College in North Manchester, Ind.; and Michael McKeever, a Church of the Br ethren member and professor of Biblical Studies at Judson University in Elg in, Ill.

Quaker singer/songwriter Carrie Newcomer will be giving a concert as part o f the conference. Newcomer's music has been described as acoustic indie fol k, with her most recent album "The Geography of Light" focused on "beauty d iscovered in the ordinary." The concert on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 7:30 p.m.,  is open to the public with sponsorship from the Church of the Brethren and  the Mutual Aid Association.
