In preparation for Paralympics champion and Christian pastor Rainer Schmidt’s

tour of Taiwan in mid-October, PCT affiliated network New Eyes Television

(NETV) will air a series of commercials promoting Schmidt’s events beginning

>October 1.

NETV has invited 20 pastors to air commercials lasting 40 to 45 seconds each

to promote Schmidt’s upcoming tour. These pastors will do one commercial

each which will later be aired on NETV. Pastors will appeal to Christians during

this commercial and urge them to participate in evangelism by inviting at least

>one friend to the rally.

Schmidt’s first rally will be held on October 16 at Tam Kang High School in

Taipei and sponsoring organizations will include PCT, Tam Kang High School,

Chang Jung Christian University, Tunghai University, Eden Social Welfare

Foundation, Taipei Table Tennis Association, and other non-Christian

>organizations.

As a Christian media, NETV is helping in the promotion of Schmidt’s rallies by

inviting well-known retired and current pastors to air commercials in Taiwanese,

Hakka, Mandarin and other languages. Each pastor will first share one verse

from the Bible and then invite Christians and non-Christians to attend the rally

>and bring their friends along.

Rainer Schmidt was born on February 18, 1965, in Germany. He did not have

either arms and one of his legs was shorter than the other, which required him to

wear prosthetics. Schmidt was also colorblind from birth and was considered an

>infant with multiple disabilities.

Despite these limitations, he took up table tennis at the age of 12 and began

training professionally in 1978. He joined Germany’s national Paralympics team

in 1983 and participated in seven Paralympics where he won four gold medals

and 3 silver medals. He also competed in world and European tournaments in

both individual and group competitions and medaled numerous times.

In 2008, Schmidt decided to gradually retire from competitive table tennis and

become a coach, full-time pastor and counselor. He is also a writer in his spare

>time.
