In Hong Kong, Anglican consultation addresses horrors of human
trafficking

>By Margaret S. Larom

[Episcopal News Service, Hong Kong] Women and men from around the
Anglican Communion gathered in one of the most beautiful cities in the
world Nov. 2-6 to focus on the ugly billion-dollar trade in children.

The trafficking of human beings, though banned by international and
national laws, is flourishing, about 40 participants learned at a
consultation in Hong Kong. A seemingly insatiable desire for young women
and girls, and boys too -- for sex, for labor, for organs -- is fueled
by evil, by greed, by ignorance, by unbearable choices made in the name
of love, or as a last resort from desperate need.

The participants faced a barrage of statistics gathered by experts, and
listened with broken hearts to stories shared by wounded healers.
Sometimes aghast, sometimes inspired, they grew steadily more familiar
with the "what" and the "where" and the "who," but still could not
fathom the "why."

Bulletin inserts for Nov. 15 remember life and ministry of Samuel
Seabury

[Episcopal News Service] Each year on Nov. 14 the Episcopal Church
remembers the consecration and ordination in 1784 of Samuel Seabury as
the first bishop of Connecticut and first Episcopal Church bishop in the
newly formed United States of America. Episcopal Life Weekly bulletin
inserts for Nov. 15 mark Seabury's feast day with a brief history of his
life and ministry, carried out as the Episcopal Church established
itself after the Revolutionary War.

Also included in the bulletin inserts for Nov. 15 is a link to a survey
that will give readers an opportunity to weigh in on what they would
like to see in Episcopal Life Weekly bulletin inserts in the coming
year. The survey opened on Nov. 2 and will close Nov. 24.

>OPINION

>Vatican's Apostolic Constitution explained

>By Bill Franklin

[Episcopal News Service] The text of the new Apostolic Constitution for
former Anglicans entering into full communion with the Roman Catholic
Church has now been released. Pope Benedict announces a new path of
unity for Christians separated from the Roman Catholic Church in his
letter. He says: "This Apostolic Constitution opens a new avenue for the
promotion of Christian unity."

But the future of Christian unity foreseen in this text is found by
returning to the past. The document, "On the Groups of Anglicans," seems
to be a return to the philosophy of the 1928 papal encyclical Mortalium
Animos of 1928, "On Fostering True Religious Unity."
