Church uses some creativity to teach about marriage

>Reported by Chen Yi-hsuan

>Written by Lydia Ma

Have you ever attended a church service that made you feel like you were attending a

wedding ceremony? Apparently, Tainan Presbytery’s Shin-Hong Presbyterian Church usually

sets aside the first week of every November as “True Love Service” and the service this year

was designed by the church’s Couples Fellowship.

From the decor and background music to the red carpet, the service was designed to help

young and old married couples reminisce the joy and excitement they felt when they first got

married. Every couple had the opportunity during the service to renew their marital vows and

reflect on the meaning of their marriage through such a gesture.

During this year’s True Love Service, a couple who had just celebrated their first anniversary

was chosen to walk on the red carpet once more. With microphone in hand, they renewed

their vows and expressed their commitment to each other. The church’s Couples Fellowship

also put on several skits about everyday problems couples face in their married life. The skits

made the audience roar with laughter and made this Sunday service exciting and lively.

According to the church’s pastor, Rev. Wang Tsan-sheng, as a pastor of a rural church, he

often has to think of different ways to package church services and ministries so that they can

be fun and interesting. With a little bit of creative thinking, this church not only manages to have

the attention of its members, but also attracts new people into its pews. In fact, Chen’s efforts

have earned the church a reputation for being a creative and attractive church with fresh ideas.

Editor’s Note: Last week, Taiwan Church News incorrectly reported the name of the church’s pastor as

Rev. Chen Tsan-sheng. The pastor’s name should be Rev. Wang Tsan-sheng.
