Local church invites flight attendant to share basic etiquette

Churches looking for professionals to share useful tips don’t need to look elsewhere because

the answer may be right in front of them – sitting in their pews, actually. Tainan Presbytery’s

Shin-Hong Church pastor Rev. Wang Tsan-sheng usually sets aside time on four occasions

every year for his congregation to share professional experiences and edify others in the body

>of Christ.

On November 15, 2009, a member of the church who worked as a flight attendant at

TransAsia Airways was invited to share about some of the skills she had learned or acquired

while working as a flight attendant, including tips on maintaining good inter-personal

relationships and basic etiquette when interacting with colleagues and customers.

Zhuo Nai-shu, who was chosen as the poster girl of TransAsia Airways in many commercial

signs, said the type of relationship people develop with those around them is usually

determined within 30 seconds of meeting each other, making first impressions very important.

Therefore, things such as hand gestures, tone of voice, smile, facial expression, and more can

influence a person’s perception of someone they’ve just met.

Zhuo went over topics such as how one ought to speak with elderly people, young children,

and people from the opposite sex, discerning the right time to extend or ask for business

cards and doing it the right way, and how to do a proper handshake. She encouraged the

congregation to practice smiling in front of a mirror as it will help improve and correct one’s

facial expressions, which may lead to better interpersonal relationships.

According to Rev. Wang, such seminars are usually conducted following Sunday’s worship

service so that the congregation can stay after the service and listen. The seminars are helpful

in solving life’s little problems and the congregation loves them. On previous occasions, the

church had invited people to share on topics such as do-it-yourself health check-ups and how

to properly report and document a car accident.
