House of Deputies president condemns proposed Uganda
anti-homosexuality legislation

Integrity USA, Canadian bishops also call for opposition

[Episcopal News Service] The pending Ugandan legislation that would
imprison for life or execute people who violate that country's
anti-homosexuality laws would be a "terrible violation of the human
rights of an already persecuted minority," Episcopal Church House of
Deputies President Bonnie Anderson has said.

Anderson was responding to a Nov. 16 request that Presiding Bishop
Katharine Jefferts Schori, Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams,
Archbishop Henri Orombi of Uganda and she speak out against the
legislation. Anderson is the first to issue a statement.

[Episcopal News Service] In many parts of the world, the feast day of
St. Nicholas, Dec. 6, is the beginning of Christmas observances.

CANADA: Anglican, Lutheran bishops express dismay over Uganda's
Anti-Homosexuality Bill

[Anglican Church of Canada] The bishops of the Anglican Church of
Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada have added their
voices to those that are expressing dismay over a proposed bill
currently before the Ugandan Parliament that, if passed, would extend
prison sentences for homosexuals and introduce the death penalty in
certain cases.

CANADA: Court rules church properties remain with New Westminster  diocese

[Anglican Journal] The Supreme Court of British Columbia ruled Nov. 25
that the Anglican Church of Canada's Diocese of New Westminster
retains possession of four church properties worth an estimated CAN$20
million (US$18.91 million). Members of congregations in these
churches, who voted to leave the Anglican Church of Canada and join
the more conservative Anglican Network in Canada (ANiC), claimed these
properties were held in trust for them.

ENGLAND: Archbishop of Canterbury releases World AIDS Day video message

[Lambeth Palace] Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams has released
his 2009 World Aids Day video, in which he speaks with the Rev.
Patricia Sawo, a church leader and mother from Kenya, about her
experiences of living with HIV. The video highlights the plight of
expectant mothers who are HIV positive and the support they need to
prevent the transmission of HIV to their babies. World AIDS Day is
Dec. 1.

SUDAN: Provincial Standing Committee warns on faltering peace process

[Episcopal News Service] The Provincial Standing Committee of the
Episcopal Church of the Sudan (ECS), meeting Nov. 23-27 in Rumbek,
issued a statement saying that the peace process is on the brink of
collapse and urging renewed national and international focus on the
political processes of the upcoming elections and referendum.

ARCIC to embark on third phase of Anglican-Roman Catholic dialogue

[ACNS] Following the meeting between Pope Benedict XVI and Archbishop
of Canterbury Rowan Williams at the Vatican on Nov. 21, at which they
reaffirmed their desire to strengthen ecumenical relations between
Anglicans and Roman Catholics, a preparatory committee met on Nov. 23
to prepare the third phase of the Anglican-Roman Catholic
International Commission (ARCIC). It has been decided that this phase
will begin within the coming year.

of Anglicans in Roman Catholic dioceses, with their own Anglican-style
rite and non-geographic jurisdictions. Cardinal Levada, former
Archbishop of San Francisco and now head of the Congregation,
announced this initiative on October 20, 2009.
