Taitung church reaches out to inmates’ children during  Christmas

On December 13, members from East Coast Presbytery’s Hsinkang  Church, located in

Cheng-Kong Township, visited eight families. These families had  one thing in common – one

of the parents was in prison. Church members wanted to reach out  to inmates’ families and

bring some Christmas presents to the children to comfort them  during this holiday season.

“This is the church’s responsibility as a member of the  community,” said Hsinkang Church’s

pastor, Rev. Liu Bing-shi. He also pointed out that rural areas  like Cheng-Kong usually lack

educational resources, resulting in many social problems later on.  However, from an

evangelistic viewpoint, the church still has some obligations and  responsibilities to its

>community.

These eight families lived fairly close to the church and they  needed to know about Jesus and

let Him transform their lives, said Liu. In addition, during  Christmas season, every child looks

forward to receiving a Christmas present, and using this  opportunity to reach out to them and

their families is what churches are called to do. More  importantly, children shouldn’t bear the

brunt of their parent’s mistakes. Liu hopes the gospel will  change their lives and keep them on

>the right path later on in life.
