On January 25, 76 leaders representing various Christian organizations and churches across

Taiwan gathered to pray for Haiti. Convening in World Vision’s office in Taipei, they prayed

fervently for God to guide the Haitian government and rescue organizations in this long journey

>toward recovery.

“We are saddened and pray that God will heal, protect, and comfort every victim in Haiti,

especially children because they are the most vulnerable in society,“ said PCT Associate

General Secretary Kho Sing-Doh, who represented PCT at the prayer meeting. Kho also

prayed that Christians may imitate Christ and become channels of blessing and help for

>Haitians.

Taiwan Baptist Theological Seminary President Tsai Rei-Yi and Change Life Church pastor

Rev. Chang Cheng-Hwa were also at the prayer meeting and Rev. Chou Lien-hua was invited

to preach the sermon. His sermon’s topic was “Mourning with those who mourn” and he

encouraged his listeners to reach out to Haitians because Taiwanese know very well what

earthquake victims are experiencing, having recovered from severe natural disasters such as

>921 Earthquake and Typhoon Morakot.

Besides praying for Haiti, Taipei’s East Gate Presbyterian Church’s pastor, Rev. Lu Jun-yi, is

urging church members to consider fewer delicacies during Chinese New Year banquets and

use the money to support Haiti rescue efforts instead. He is also encouraging Sunday school

teachers to teach children to tithe or offer in full their New Year red envelopes to help Haitians

>in need.

In related news, East Gate Church is also financially supporting a team of 17 Taiwanese-

American physicians based in Miami who’ve already headed to Port-au-Prince to assist

>rescue and relief efforts.
