Church uses money-managing camp to train kids and attract adults

Learning how to manage money responsibly is an important part of a child’s
character

development and Shuei-Nan Credit Union in Taichung recently included this
topic in its

character education camp so that children can learn early on how to be
responsible stewards.

Shuei-Nan Credit Union incorporated Biblical teachings about managing money in
materials

used for a children character education camp. The Credit Union is an affiliate
organization of

the Shei-Nan Presbyterian Church. Beginning March 6, they will co-host a
12-week Saturday

camp focusing on Biblical principles for managing money. So far, more than 30
kids have

registered and most of them aren’t churchgoers.

According to Shuei-Nan Credit Union President, Elder Hsiao Yung-shin, the
organization has

always been concerned about the needs of local residents and has organized
several events

in the past. The goal of this year’s camp is to help parents train their
children in the area of

managing money using Biblical principles as reference.

Elder Hsiao stressed that basic principles about managing money can be found
in the Bible

and both adults and children would benefit from learning them. Parents must
learn to

differentiate a child’s wants from a child’s needs, and children must learn to
save up money.

However, he also emphasized the ultimate purpose of organizing Saturday camps
is to

introduce people to Christianity and invite them to church. The camp merely
uses sound

principles from the Bible as a tool for evangelism. It is also a means to
eventually lead children

>to Sunday schools.
