Taiwanese Aborigines visit and minister to Philippine Aborigines

Tao Aborigines from Orchid Island, an off-shore island of Taiwan, have always
had a special

place in their hearts for Aborigines living in Batan Islands, Philippines. Not
only are these

islands only a few kilometers apart, Aborigines from both regions can also
communicate with

>one another in their own languages.

Every year during fly-fishing season near end of April, PCT Tao District
church members head

to Batan Islands for short-term missions, which often include exchanging ideas
on fishing and

farming. This year, a team of 18 people will go to Batan Islands from April
21~29 and hold

>revival meetings and house visitations.

Tao District members also hope to visit and lend support to pastors
ministering in Batan

Islands. They hope to assist in some of the daily needs of pastors and provide
them some

stability so that pastors can concentrate on training disciples and conducting
services.

This year’s short-term mission includes attending a worship service with local
Christians and

taking part in a forum on missions. Christians from both sides look forward to
cooperating

more closely in the area of evangelism. Besides this forum, there will also be
visits and

exchanges with people working in Batan’s farming and fishing industries.

PCT Associate General Secretary Sing ‘Olam and Indigenous Ministry Committee
Chairman

Rev. Lu Tian-wu will accompany the mission team this year. Besides supporting
local

churches financially, PCT will also give one guitar to each local church.

Funding for this mission trip will come from PCT General Assembly and
government

agencies. However, PCT recently reported that it is NT$400,000 short in
funding and needs

local churches to pray for provision and donate medical supplies, fishing
tools, and stationary.
