>Conference to address domestic poverty

>By Lynette Wilson

[Episcopal News Service] Every day across the United States
Episcopalians work in soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters,
health clinics, daycare centers and in social service capacities,
striving for justice and peace among all people and in respect for the
dignity of every human being.

Later this month April 28-30, a few hundred Episcopalians and others
interested in social service are expected to gather in Newark, New
Jersey, for "Called to Serve: The Episcopal Church Responds to
Domestic Poverty," a conference designed to explore the nature of
domestic poverty and the church's role in addressing it.

The conference is supported by Jubilee Ministries, Episcopal Community
Services in America and National Episcopal Health Ministries.

>SPIRITUAL REFLECTIONS

April 11, 2010 - Second Sunday of Easter - Year C

(RCL) Acts 5: 27-32; Psalm 150; Revelation 1:4-8; John 20:19-31

>By the Rev. Scott Baker

[Sermons That Work] Every night the same routine played out. It
happened around the time the 11 o'clock news was on. As a child she
usually slept right through it, but there were those occasions when
she'd rouse from sleep, hearing the familiar gate of her father's
footsteps walking first to the kitchen door, then to the front door,
then tramp downstairs to the basement. Dad would walk through the
house and check the doors and secure the locks if need be.

"Complete Guide to Godly Play Volume 4 - 20 Presentations for Spring"
by Jerome Berryman, paperback, 120 pages, c. 2003, $24.95.

[Church Publishing] In this volume Jerome Berryman has gathered
together the presentations that form the suggested cycle of lessons
for Spring. If we leave out the respectful experiences of scripture,
we risk trivializing the Christian way of life. We also miss out on
the profound fun of existential discovery, a kind of "fun" that keeps
us truly alive. In this volume you'll find all the information you
need to present the spring lessons of Godly Play. The simple format of
the lessons presented in The Complete Guide to Godly Play will enable
all teachers, whether new or experienced, to find the information they
need to enter fully into the most rewarding play we share: Godly Play.
