CANADA: No legislative decision on same-sex blessings but an open
spirit enters discussions

[Anglican Journal] "Despite all our differences we are passionately
committed to walking together." So said a pastoral statement approved
June 10 by the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada on the
issue of same-gender blessings. And it may mark the beginning of a new
spirit and approach to a question that has divided the church in
recent years.

CANADA: Third and final draft of Anglican Covenant called 'a very
significant improvement'

[Anglican Journal] The 2010 General Synod of the Anglican Church of
Canada has approved a resolution receiving the final text of the
proposed Anglican Covenant. It also directs the Council of General
Synod, after a period of consultation and study, to recommend whether
or not it should be adopted at its next meeting in 2013.

* Today in History: On June 14, 1889, the Christian Social Union was
founded. This organization within the Church of England addressed
social injustice, which flourished in the latter part of the 19th
century and continued into the early 20th century. Through the work of
"slum priests," it became attached to the Oxford Movement. Its leaders
included Henry Scott Holland, dean of St. Paul's Cathedral, and
briefly William Temple, later archbishop of Canterbury.
